A culinary highlight, in the truest sense of the word, is the Holzknechthütte (wood-cutter’s hut). The chef will prepare a multi-course meal for you on the open fire in true Carinthian tradition. Noble wines round off the experience, the view through the panorama window is majestic.

The history of the Holzknechthütte

Something very special in the Almdorf Seinerzeit is a visit to the Holzknechthütte. Whether you do so in the morning for a champagne breakfast, at noon for lunch or in the evening for dinner, it will be a unique experience at any time of the day. Up until not so long ago the lumberjacks, in Carinthia they were the wood-cutters, were in the woods all week long. The long distances to the remote workplaces had to be mastered by foot up until the middle of the last century. They only walked this distance once a week. They therefore needed an accommodation on location to cook and sleep. Those were the ordinary wood-cutters’ huts. Made of bark, they offered protection against wind and weather. The meals which could only be prepared on an open fire were simple, substantial and good.

The Holzknechthütte in the Almdorf Seinerzeit

Our wood-cutter’s hut is only similar to the original on the outside. Inside the furnishings, the view, the menu and the service exceed all expectations. All meals on the menu are prepared in front of the guest over an open fire just like they were back then (Seinerzeit). Fine wines and schnapps distilled by Horst himself top off the experience. The view through the panorama window is majestic.
